The prompt for this assignment was to create a travel brochure for a location of our choice, whether from the list of options provided or one that we picked ourselves. I decided to make my brochure about Maui. After doing some research I realized that I was finding several lists of top ten things to do in Maui, so I decided to make my whole brochure lists of places to go in Maui. The website that kept coming up again and again was TripAdvisor, so I decided to pull all my content from TripAdvisor and to make it the company from which the brochure was "created." However, the design and color scheme were my own. I wanted to have a light and bright color scheme to reflect the beautiful and joyful nature of Maui. What better way to do that than to pull a sky-blue color from an actual picture of Maui? I also wanted to give the brochure a very clean look, so I incorporated a lot of geometric shapes. The outside of the brochure is dominated by diamonds that give it a little something extra while the inside of the brochure is dominated by rectangles. These clean shapes serve to represent the simplicity that makes Maui beautiful. The pictures are from Unsplash and they depict that natural beauty of Maui and some show people enjoying that beauty. Also, the font is very simple and fun yet thick enough to be readable for all ages. The entire brochure has variations of the same font except the cover panel which provides a unique contrast and emphasis for the title. Overall, I like the unity and repetition that is given by the blue color throughout the brochure while the different pictures and shapes provide contrast.
